What diseases are we looking for?

Common disease are:

  • Heart Disease
  • Kidney Disease
  • Lung Disease
  • Eye problems

Diseases are more common as we get older and there is a high-risk factor to them all. Quite often you can have any of the above diseases well before you notice any symptoms.

If someone has high blood pressure, high cholesterol, is overweight, a smoker or drinks a high volume of alcohol and these conditions are left untreated there is a higher risk of getting a stroke or heart attack down the track.

How can I prevent these disease?

If you proactively managing your health including blood pressure and cholesterol whilst being more active it will help prevent chronic diseases in the future. The government encourages anyone between the ages of 45 and 49 years old to have a comprehensive assessment and try to identify any risk factor that can be treated and improved.

What is involved in health check?

There is a Medicare rebate to get a health assessment performed if you are within the age group. Often it involves doing an Electrocardiography (ECG), a Spirometry test to check lung health, a urine test and a physical examination. Doing these tests will identify any potential risks and provide advice to rectify and improve.
